Why new cabins scratch so quickly

Walk around any showroom and the cabins look perfect. Large touchscreens, gloss black panels around the gear lever, shiny door switch surrounds. Six months later, hold a phone torch over the same parts and you will see a web of fine scratches.

Piano black plastic is soft. Keys, rings, sunglasses, a phone dropped into the cup holder and even the duster you wipe it with all leave marks. Touchscreens get tapped and swiped hundreds of times a week. Some of these parts can be polished lightly, many cannot, and replacing a trim panel is not cheap.

Interior PPF stops the damage before it starts. It is the cheapest time to protect a cabin, and the best time is in the first few weeks after delivery.

What the film actually is

Interior PPF is thermoplastic polyurethane, the same family of material as the paint protection film we fit on bonnets and bumpers, but thinner and cut for small interior parts.

The top layer is self-healing. A light scratch from a ring or fingernail fades with a little warmth, and in a parked car in a Sonipat summer there is plenty of that. The film also resists fingerprints and wipes clean with a dry cloth.

Fitted properly, you have to look closely at the edges to see it is there at all.

Parts we usually cover

We check your model first, because every car has different glossy parts and some are worth covering more than others.

Touchscreen

Protects against scratches and smudges. Touch response stays the same.

Instrument cluster

Digital clusters scratch when wiped with a dusty cloth, so a clear layer keeps them sharp.

Piano black around the gear lever

The part that takes the most knocks from keys, phones and bangles.

Centre console and cup holders

Bottles, coins and phones scuff these surfaces every single day.

Door sills and handle cups

Shoes scuff the sills, and rings and nails mark the handle cups.

Steering switch panels

Gloss surrounds on steering controls wear fast on cars driven many hours a day.

Interior PPF compared with a shop screen guard

Customers often ask if a cheap guard from the market does the same job. It does not, and here is why.

How we fit it

Interior film is slow, careful work because every piece sits in your line of sight.

  1. Choose the parts

We go through the cabin with you and agree which surfaces to cover and in which finish.

  2. Clean and degrease

Each surface is cleaned, dust is lifted out of every edge and seam, and any oil from hands is removed.

  3. Cut to shape

Film is cut to the outline of each part, leaving a tiny margin so the edges do not catch.

  4. Lay and settle

The film goes on with a slip solution and is pressed out so no water or dust is trapped.

  5. Check before hand-over

Every piece is checked under studio lights and in daylight before you take the car.

Gloss or matte film

Gloss film keeps piano black looking deep and wet, the way it did on delivery day. Most people choose gloss for trims.

Matte film is popular on large touchscreens. It cuts glare when the afternoon sun comes through the windscreen and hides fingerprints. The trade-off is a slightly softer look to the display. We can show you both on your own screen before deciding.

Living with interior film

Clean filmed surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth, slightly damp if needed. Avoid cleaners with alcohol or ammonia, and avoid rough dusters, which are what scratched the trims in the first place.

For the first day or two, do not press hard on a freshly filmed screen while the adhesive settles. Do not pick at an edge. If one piece ever gets damaged, it can be replaced on its own without touching the rest.

Interior film pairs well with a cabin clean. If the car is a few years old, an interior detail first gets the trims clean enough for film to sit properly. Prices for both are on the price list.

Most interior PPF jobs take 2 to 4 hours, so you can usually wait at the studio or collect the car the same day.

Questions people ask

Will the film affect how my touchscreen responds?

No. The film is thin and clear, so taps and swipes work the same as before. If you pick matte film, the screen will look slightly softer but glare drops a lot.

Can heavily scratched piano black be filmed?

Film will hide very fine marks, but it will not hide deep scratches. Badly scratched trims may need careful polishing first, where the part allows it. We look at the trims and tell you before fitting.

Does interior PPF yellow in summer heat?

Good TPU film is made to stay clear, which is why we do not use cheap PVC sheet. A parked car in Haryana can get very hot inside, and that is exactly where the cheap guards fail.

Can it be removed later?

Yes. It peels off without damaging the trim underneath, and we can remove and replace a single piece if needed.

Is it worth doing on an older car?

If the surfaces are still in decent shape, yes. On a car where the trims are already badly marked, it makes sense to sort those first and then protect them.

Do I need to leave the car overnight?

Usually not. Most cabins take 2 to 4 hours depending on how many parts are covered. If you are booking it with exterior PPF or a coating, it is done in the same visit.
